Going Green Matters Webinar Series: Beneficial Bugs: Getting the Balance Right in Your Yard

Going Green Matters Webinar Series: Beneficial Bugs: Getting the Balance Right in Your Yard

Creating a yard that’s healthy for both people and wildlife means supporting a variety of insects, which play a key role in ecosystems. What kinds of insects can we see in a healthy yard on the North Shore? And how do we attract them? Importantly, how do we support beneficial insects without making a home for mosquitoes as well? In this webinar, Doug Taron of the Peggy Notebaert Museum will talk about the many kinds of bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects that inhabit our area. Along the way he will suggest ways that you can attract them to your yard. Our second speaker, Mark Clifton of the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District, will then address the best methods to prevent mosquitoes in your yard, and tell you how the NSMAD can help. Spoiler Alert! The best defense against mosquitoes isn’t chemical.
