Again this year Go Green Wilmette is sponsoring a community reusable bag sharing station at the French Market. The goal is to encourage market goers to use reusable bags by having a well-stocked station at the entrance to the market. Shoppers are encouraged to take a reusable bag for their use at the market and to keep it for use elsewhere. Additionally, donations of clean bags are welcomed.
This is part of GGW’s on-going efforts to reduce the amount of single use plastics within our community. Plastic bags in particular have huge environmental impacts associated with manufacturing and disposal – the vast majority end up in landfills, rivers, and oceans where they endanger human health and wildlife.
Look for the station at the entrance to the market beginning in June – it might be at the south end one week and then the north end the following. And, if you have extra reusable bags that are clean and in good condition, drop them off at the Bag Sharing Station on Saturdays. Can’t make it to the French Market? Let us know and we’ll come to you to pick up the bags or provide a location where you can drop them off.
