Abt Electronics accepts computers and electronics, including calculators, cameras, power tools and cords, shredders, faxes and typewriters at no charge. Fees will apply to CRT monitors, TV’s and large quantities of computers, small appliances and electronics. Park at Customer Pick Up area and notify the person behind the counter. FreeGeek Chicago (3411 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago, 773-342-6205) accepts all items listed on their Donate Page and provides the donor with a receipt for tax purposes. FreeGeek provides training and low- and no-cost computing to the economically disadvantaged and not-for profits. Call for further details and hours.

GreenDisk (800-305-DISK) takes up to 25 lbs. for $11.95 (.45 for each additional lb.), in your own box: CDs, jewel cases, DVDs, DVD cases, audio and video tapes, cell phones (remove SIM card), hard drives, small electronics, pagers, rechargeable batteries (tape ends), PDAs, ink/toner cartridges (put in a Ziplock bag to prevent leakage). Technology for Humanity takes multiple working computers less than eight years old. They are a charity that provides computers for underserved communities and people with disabilities, as well as for schools.
The Village of Wilmette has a permanent drop off dumpster for electronics. Items should be taken to Wilmette Public Works’ permanent 24-hour drop-off site at 711 Laramie Avenue in the driveway. See this website page for a list of everything that is accepted.
