SUMMARY:FGBT: 7th Annual Winter Solstice Parade of Lights
DESCRIPTION:Decorate yourself\, family\, dogs\, strollers or wagons with lights and things that glow. No candles or open flames\, please! Meet at Glencoe’s Shelton Park playground  to mark the passing of the year’s  longest period of  darkness. Enjoy the Friends’ presentation of the Abbot’s Bromley Horn Dance\, an ancient musical procession historically performed at this time of year.  Stroll the Green Bay Trail to sing songs and celebrate the arrival of longer days.  Festivities will end back at Shelton Park where a bonfire\, hot chocolate and refreshments will be shared. \nThe Parade will be cancelled in the event of severe weather.  Event updates will be posted on gbtrail.org and the Friends’ Facebook page. \nThis FREE event is sponsored by the Friends of the Green Bay Trail and the Glencoe Park District.

SUMMARY:Go Green Reads: The Tragedy of the Commons
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next discussion in March\, which will be a fun one. Bookseller and environmentalist Jon Grand and economist and environmentalist Craig Witty will lead a discussion of the 1968 article\, The Tragedy of the Commons\, by Garrett Hardin. The Tragedy of the Commons explains individuals’ tendencies to make decisions based on their personal needs and self-interest\, regardless of the negative impact they may have on others. In the environmental context\, resources are overused\, exploited\, and eventually depleted\, to the detriment of all. \nThe online article can be found at this LINK. \nPlease register for this discussion through the Zoom link. After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email with the link for joining the discussion. Email gogreenreads@gmail.com with any questions or issues. \nThank you to The Book Stall for its generous support of our communities and these discussions!
