Invasive plants come to an ecosystem from far away, usually another continent. Because they are introduced, they have no natural predators or checks on their growth, and they spread aggressively. This leaves no room for the native plants that support other life in the ecosystem, which degrades it.
Matt Evans, Managing Ecologist for Woodlands at the Chicago Botanic Garden will define invasive plants for us and discuss the importance of removing them both from larger green spaces and our own properties. To show us this work in action, speakers from the Canal Shores Golf Course will take us through their own efforts to remove invasive species from the property along the course and replace them with native plants for everyone’s benefit.
